A collision between a street car and Dr. Earl C. Cobb’s Oldsmobile at Madison, Wis., Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of Mrs. Cobb and the injuring of five others. Warren Emerson, who drove the machine, escaped without receiving a scratch.

Dr. Cobb and family, and Mrs. Ida Emerson and children, all of Sun Prairie, left Saturday afternoon for Madison to visit relatives. Upon approaching the Baldwin St. crossing, Warren turned the machine to the right so as to proceed up East Washington Av. On the right side of the boulevard. While crossing the street railway tracks a street car, operated by Motorman William Rodefield, ran into the rear part of the auto. The force of the impact derailed the car. The big machine was swung around and the occupants were thrown violently out.

The Sunday morning Madison Democrat says:

“Mrs. Cobb, who was 43 years old, was thrown a distance of about 24 feet, striking in front of the entrance of the grocery store of Carroll, Paltz & Co. The other occupants also were hurled for some distance. The auto fell on its side.

“Dr. Cobb occupied the front seat with Warren Emerson and escaped with only a bruise on the arm.

“Next to Mrs. Cobb, Ralph Emerson was the most seriously injured. The windshield was smashed to pieces and he received bad cuts in the face from broken glass. He received a deep gash extending from the mouth to the back of the head. He also has a scalp wound. It could not be determined last night whether he had received internal injuries. Dr. R.H. Jackson sewed up his wounds.

“Miss Gladys Cobb, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Cobb, escaped with a cut on the forehead and a severe shaking up.

“Mrs. Emerson and her son, Earl, last night were ill from the shock. They received bruises but no development of internal injuries have appeared. Mrs. Cobb died shortly after arriving at the hospital.”

Dr. Earl C. Cobb and Mrs. Ida Emerson are son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cobb of this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), and formerly resided here. Earl was one of our first resident dentists. Many friends join in expressions of sympathy for the bereaved ones.
