---Hillert, Gottlieb (3 Dec. 1848 – 10 Aug. 1936)

Gottlieb Hillert, 87 years old, and a resident of the Town of Grant since *1873, died of old age and complications Monday about 9 p.m. at the home of his son, Richard.

Mr. Hillert was born December 3, *1873 at Goosskannova, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hillert. At the age of 4 he was brought to America by his parents, the family setting in Sheboygan. On June 8, *1873 Mr. Hillert was married to August Thiede and they moved to a farm in Grant. Of the 11 children born to them, the following eight survive: Mrs. Anna Reed, Stratford; Mrs. Emily Dudei, Mrs. Fred Sternitzsky, Mrs. Ed. Sternitzsky, Edward, Fred, Richard and Arthur of Granton. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A brother, Henry, lived at Plymouth and a sister, Mrs. Johanna Stolter lived at Adell. Mrs. Hillert died Dec. 16, 1907.

Mr. Hillert was a man of sound judgement and enjoyed the confidence of all who knew him. He was active in church affairs and took a keen interest in the life of his community. However, he had been in ill health for the past several months.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 from the house and at 2 p.m. from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. Arthur Laesch conducting the rites. Burial will be made in the church Cemetery.

*Note the year on the three that are marked. Gottlieb couldn’t have been born & married the same year. After doing a little searching, found that Gottlieb’s birth year is actually 1848, per headstone. Check the Sheboygan County Marriage records online their marriage date listed above is correct. According to the information provided in the obituary Gottlieb came to America with his family at the age of four years. So that would put it about 1852; that is if this information is correct. – No connection with this family line, but making notes for others.
