Cook, Alonzo (6 Sept. 1869 – 18 Oct. 1936)

Alonzo Cook, son of the late Morton M. and Sarah M. Cook, was born on the old home place in the town of Hewett, September 6, 1869, and passed away at his home here October 18, 1936, aged 67 years, one month and 12 days.

On April 20, 1898 he was united in marriage to Kate Abbott Hart, and they have resided continuously on their farm here, excepting about three years spent on the first farm they bought about the first farm they bought, about one-half mile south of their present location and one year in Washington and Oregon on business and pleasure.

Lon was road commissioner for about 20 years, and was a member of the school board for several years. He was foreman of Geo. L. Jacques of the different farms he owned in Hewett, Pine Valley and Weston for about three years, and spent 17 years of his life in the pine woods hauling logs with four horses.

He was strictly honest in every sense of the word and was a good friend and neighbor, always willing to give a helping hand in sickness or where ever needed.

Seven years ago the 31st day of last May he had a stroke and has not been able to do any hard labor since, but helped with the light chores as long as he was able. For the past year and a half he has been an invalid. On October 16 he was stricken with pneumonia, and passed away on the 18.

He leaves to mourn his lost his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Sophronia Clark, Merrillan, Wisconsin; Mrs. Franklin D. Biggs of Puyallup, Washington. Three brothers, Jay and bill at Centralia, Washington and Ray at Shelton, Washington and one step son Bennie Hart of Humbird. Two brothers George and Morton and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Cox and Mrs. Frank Ayers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Neillsville, Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Longenecker officiating.

The pallbearers will be Wm. Ambelang, John Sollberger, Wm. Huntley, Harry Albright, Ed Kutchera.
