Hoff, Anna Catherine, Peter, and Albert J.

The information on the three Hoff children included on the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery web page bears clarification. Anna Catherine and Peter Hoff were siblings, 2 of the 10 children born to Mathew and Catherine Hoff (they are listed as spouses in that column). Family history and a transcribed newspaper article (no source or date, unfortunately) say that they died of diphtheria. You'll note by their ages that marriage seems unlikely anyway. They are named as parents of Albert J. Hoff. They had been dead for some time when Albert was born. Albert may have been the son of Nicholas Hoff and thus Mathew Hoff's grandson, buried with Matthew and Catherine's own deceased children. On the 1900 census, Nicholas and his wife, Marie, list 6 children currently living of 7 born to them and there is a gap of 4 years between living children and around Albert's birthyear.
