HARTLS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS

Helen and Roy Hartl, Loyal, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the Auburndale Park on October 1, 2005. It was a surprise party put on by their children, grandchildren and Helen’s brothers and sisters.

Roy and Helen were married on October 5, 1955, in Blenker, with the Rev. Oberwiender officiating. Their attendants were Fran (nee Smazal) Schill, Arpin, sister of the bride; Roger Hartl, Auburndale, cousin of the groom; Vi (nee Smazal) Hartl, cousin of the bride; Walt Hartl, Medford, brother of the groom; Bev (nee Smazal) Rawlings, Kiel, sister of the bride; and Frank Smazal, Milladore, brother of the bride. All were in attendance at the party except Vi Hartl, who is deceased.

Helen Smazal was born on April 17, 1937, in a log house in Milladore, to Frank and Mayme Smazal. She attended St. Killians School for eight years. In 1955, she graduated from Auburndale High School. She worked for 17 years for Loyal Foods and 18 years as the manager of Loyal Drug Store. She retired in 1999. She has three brothers, Marvin Smazal, Rudolph, Vernon (Dorla) Smazal, Auburndale, and Frank (Edie) Smazal, Milladore; and eight sisters, Gertie (Joe) Sazama, Athens, Fran (Albert) Schill, Arpin, Marie (Hank) Eron, Stevens Point, Volly (Gary) Hendrickson, Spencer, Betty Schlafke, Sheboygan, Lila (Daryll) Stewart, Seversville, TN, Laurie (Dick) Raab, Appleton, and Bev (Jesse) Rawlings, Kiel.

Roy Hartl was born June 30, 1933, in Rudolph, to Louis and Besse Hartl. He graduated from Unity Grade School. He worked for Mike’s Standard Station, Trailblazer and Land O’Lakes, Spencer. He retired in 1997. He has one sister, Marge (Wayne) Schulz, Spencer; and three brothers, Walt Hartl, Medford, Louis (Hazel) Hartl, Hudson, and Bob (Nancy) Hartl, Marshfield.

They have two daughters, Shelley (Randy) Domine, Loyal, and Jody Hartl, Marshfield; and five grandchildren, Breanne (Will) Sallee, St. Paul, MN, Paige Miller, Marshfield, Kaleb Miller, Marshfield, Shawna Domine, Stratford, and Megan Domine, Loyal. Two grandchildren, Dustin Domine and Holly Domine are deceased.

They have wintered in Arizona for the last nine years. They also enjoy polka dancing, camping, playing cards and gardening. She plays accordion, and while in Arizona, plays in a band. Because she comes from a musical family, the afternoon was spent with her relatives providing musical entertainment.
