Obit: Quinell, Elizabeth (1865 - 1961)
Source: Scrapbook Collection of Donelle O'Meara ----- Quinell, Elizabeth (28 OCT 1865 - 18 AUG 1961) Mrs. Herbert Quinnell died Aug. 18, 1961 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Crothers. She was 96 years old. The former Elizabeth Williams, daughter of John and Mary Ann (Towner) Williams was born October 28, 1865 at Canterbury, England. She received her education in England and worked as a lady’s maid for a London banker’s wife for eight years. On April 22, 1889 she was united in marriage with Mr. Herbert Quinnell at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Sutton, Surrey and on May 2, 1889, ten days after their wedding, they left England to make their home in the United States. They arrived at Sydney, a train stop just west of Neillsville, twenty days after embarking upon this life-time venture. They lived there for a while then moved to a farm in the town of Pine Valley where, with the exception of one year, they spent their lifetime until Mr. Quinnell’s death in 1955. Since then she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Crothers at 301 Grand in Neillsville. Seven children were born to the Quinnells, one son died in infancy and another son, Robert, died in April 1956. She was also preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and one sister. She is survived by the following children: Mr. Herbert Quinnell of Spooner Wisconsin, Mrs. Percy Quinnell of San Diego, Cal, Mrs. Elizabeth Crothers of Neillsville, Miss Ada Quinnell, RN of Chicago, Il; and Mrs. Frances O’Meara of Durand, Wis. She is further survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. |
