TWO BUGAR BROTHERS DROWN NEAR WEST BEND

Ignatz Bugar, Jr., 24 and Raymond Bugar, 23, Theresa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Bugar, Sr., Loyal, R. 1, were drowned at Big Cedar Lake near West Bend Sunday afternoon.

The boat in which they were riding, equipped with an out-board motor, capsized as the boat was making a turn.

The body of Ray was found in about 40 feet of water two hours after the accident. The body of Ignatz was not found until early Monday morning.

Others in the boat were Virginia Hartman, 21; Armin Zimmel, and Mrs. Frank Franzen all of Theresa.

It is stated that Ignatz went down in an effort to rescue Miss Hartman who was later saved by a Milwaukee Man. Zimmel clung to the boat until rescued and Mrs. Franzen was picked up by another boat.

The brothers went to Theresa about a year ago where they were employed. Ignatz was married and the father of a seven month old boy.

The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.

Ignatz and Raymond Bugar were born in Austria, Hungary, Ignatz on the 22nd day of July, 1909, being 25 years of age on the day of his death. Raymond was born on February 13, 1912, being 22 years, 5 months and 9 days of age.

They came to America with their parents in 1914 and lived several years in Chicago. They moved to Colby and in 1927 came to the town of Sherman where their parents now reside.

Ignatz was united to Gertrude Guelig of Theresa on Nov. 9, 1932, who have a nin months old son, Melvin Raymond, is left to mourn his untimely death, besides their parents, 5 brothers, and one sister.

The brothers met death late Sunday afternoon when a motor boat in which they were riding, capsized on Big Cedar Lake.

Other members of the party were Virginia Hartman, 18, Mrs. Robert Franzen, 17, and Arman Zimmel all of Theresa. Mrs. Franzen succeeded in rescuing Zimmel. Miss Hartman was rescued by another party.

Ignatz had also succeeded in getting back to the boay but plunged back into the lake in an effort to save his brother who was still missing.

Before help could reach them both sank out of sight while Mrs. Bugar and infant watched helpless on the shore.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning July 25, at the Ed. Guelig residence at 9 o’clock and at St, Theresa’s Catholic Church in Theresa at 9:30. The Rev. M. J. Groff officiated. Several business places were closed during the services.

They were laid to rest side by side in the Catholic cemetery.

Ignatz and Raymond were well known in this community and will be sadly missed by all who knew them.
