-------Hoesly, Melchior Sr. (1 July 1886 – 31 July 1938)

Melchior Hoesly, Sr., passed away Sunday, July 31, 1938, at Neillsville hospital from injuries received in an auto accident the evening previous.

Mr. Hoesly was born July 1, 1886, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Markus Hoesly, Sr., at New Glarus, Wis., being therefore 52 years of age.

He was married to Josephine Mathey Dec. 29, 1908, at Medford, Wis., and to them were born 3 children; Alice, Mrs. Franklin Grap, Neillsville; Melchior, Jr., Neillsville; and Ellen, Mrs. Arthur Galls, Spencer. He is also survived by his parents, two grandchildren, Wayne Grap and Yvonne Gall, and the following brothers and sisters:

Baltz, Loyal; Markus, Neillsville; Henry, Appleton; John, Cumberland, Maryland; Jacob, Neillsville.

Minnie, Mrs. Herman Kelch, Whitewater, Wis.; Amelia and Anna, Neillsville.

Deceased farmed for 11 years in the towns of Eaton and Grant, Clark County, coming to Neillsville in 1920 to work in the Ford garage, which business he later purchased and operated for a number of years.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 2:00 o’clock at the family home and at 2:30 at the Reformed church, Rev. Ben Stucki officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Neillsville Cemetery.

All of the children and grandchildren, the parents, brothers and sisters, and the following relatives were here Wednesday, Aug. 3 for the funeral of Melchior Hoesly which was held at the Reformed Church at 2:15 that afternoon:

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kubly, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stuessy, and H. Hoesly, Jr., of New Glarus; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mathey, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pries, Mrs. Albert Pries, Ervin Pries, Mrs. Clarence Pries, Miss Viola Pries and Mrs. Edgar Olson, of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jerrodin, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Swoboda, and Misses Irene and Eunice Swoboda of Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Spieles and Mrs. Bertha Mathey, of Loyal, and all of the children and brothers and sisters and their families, with the exception of John Hoesly of Cummberland, Md.

Pallbearers were: Nick Scherer, Oscar Walk, Harry Frantz, Howard Stillwell, William O’Brien and Herbert Radke.
