----Beck, Elizabeth (22 Nov. 1884 – 7 Dec. 1938)

Mrs. Orley Beck (nee Elizabeth Sollberger) was born November 22, 1884, at Berne, Switzerland, to John and Elizabeth Sollberger and passed away Wednesday, December 7, 1938, at 8 o’clock p.m. at the Berwyn hospital, Berwyn, Ill., after a week’s illness with pneumonia. She was taken ill at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Baumel, and family, where she was visiting.

When Elizabeth was five years old her parents came to America, choosing, Monroe, Wis., as the city in which to establish their new home. Forty-three years ago they came to Clark County and bought land in the town of Hewett. Here Miss Elizabeth grew to womanhood and at twenty years of age she was married to Orley Beck of Merrillan, their marriage taking place at Wausau in 1904. The young couple went directly to Merrill, which had since been their home.

She was an active worker in the Methodist church and a faithful member of the Pine Forest Chapter No. 96, O. E. S., Merrill. She was a dutiful daughter, making frequent visits here to comfort and assist her aged mother whose health has been poorly for several years. She brought grace and charm to the home over which she presided and was loyal and true as a neighbor and friend.

She leaves to mourn her early demise her husband, Orley Beck; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Sollberger, town of Hewett; two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Frank Baumel, Berwyn; Mrs. L. Sherman, Merrillan; John, town of Hewett; Albert, Neillsville; William, Hewett; and Ernest, Park Falls.

The body was brought here from Merrill where services were held Sunday, rites being held Monday afternoon at the Masonic temple, Carmi chapter Nov. 60, O. E. S. conducting the ritual, interment taking place in the Neillsville Cemetery. The Rev. C. E. Hagen of Merrill assisted.

The out-of-town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. Hagen, Mrs. W. H. Nohr, Mrs. William F. Peterman, Jr.; Mrs. N. Peterman, all of Merrill; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baumel and daughter, June, Berwyn, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. L. Sherman, Merrillan; William Roshe, Tomahawk; and Ernest Sollberger, Park Falls.
