James Campbell, 94, a Civil War veteran, formerly of Neillsville, passed away at St. Petersburg, Fla. April 16. Interment was made at St. Cloud, Fla.

Mr. Campbell came to Milwaukee in 1849, when he was four years of age from County Antrim, Ireland. He grew to young manhood in that city and served with the 153rd Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. Later he moved to Neillsville and operated a small farm at the southwest side of the city, where he raised chickens, grew choice berries and fruits and did truck gardening. He also worked at his trade, being a good painter.

He moved to Florida in 1918, where Mrs. Campbell passed away. He was re-married and is survived by his wife, Mary F. Campbell, formerly of Wauwatosa, a sister of the first grand treasurer of the Eastern Star grand chapter of the state of Wisconsin.

Deceased was a member of the Charles G. Bacon Corps, No. 48, G. A. R., in this city, Mrs. Campbell being active in the Women’s Relief corps No. 10. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the first Masonic Picnic in Neillsville being held at the Campbell farm.
