----Ebben, Clayborne “Clay” Arnold (April 7, 1930 - June 10, 2004)

Clayborne “Clay” A. Ebben, age 74, of Thorp, died at the Clark County Health Care Center, in Owen, on Thursday, June 10, 2004 of Alzheimer’s disease. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2004 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, in Thorp, with father John Puerner officiating. Visitation was held at the church, on Monday, from 9:30 until time of service.

Clayborne Arnold Ebben was born on April 7, 1930, in Thorp, to Harvey and Clara (Herman) Ebben. He was raised and educated in Thorp, and began working at Blue Moon Cheese at the age of sixteen. Clay graduated from Thorp High School in 1949. He then entered the U.S. Army on March 30, 1951 and served overseas during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge on March 17, 1953, he returned to Thorp, where he continued working at Blue Moon Cheese and played football for the Chippewa Marines. Clay was united in marriage on September 3, 1955 to Lorraine “Skelly” Skaleski at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They bought a farm in the Town of Reseburg in 1958. He farmed and worked at Blue Moon Cheese for 45 years until retiring in 1992. Clay was a lifelong member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, and had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, farming, and sports, particularly Thorp school sports.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lorraine “Skelly”, of Thorp, WI; his children: Diane (Raymond) Luzinski of Thorp, WI; Bob of Thorp, WI; Bill (Bonnie) of Rochester, MN; Kathy (Mark) Borneman of Deerbrook, WI; Karen Ebben of Hudson, WI; Pete (Julian) Ebben-Ross of Denver, CO; Howard (Denise) of Athens, WI; Paul (Pamela) of Chippewa Falls, WI; thirteen grandchildren: Craig, Scott, Neal, Jeni, Kellie, Kristan, Mike, Krystle, Heather, Brittney, Amy, Alison and Amber; one great-granddaughter Roxanne; two brothers: Len (Leta) Ebben of Abbotsford, WI and Ron (Joanna) Ebben of Wausau, WI; one sister Carol (Rich) Boie of Thorp, WI; one sister-in-law Katie LaSage of Stanley, WI and one brother-in-law Jim Sneen of Elk Mound, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Cliff Ebben and one sister, Rosann Sneen.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
