----McDonald, Richard “Mac” Herbert (April 18, 1944 - February 8, 2004)

Richard H. “Mac” McDonald, age 59, of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Medical Center in Madison, WI. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp with Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Inurnment will follow at Gleason Cemetery, Gleason, WI. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Richard Herbert McDonald was born on April 18, 1944 in Chicago, IL, the son of Wilbert F. and Drucilla M. (Shey) McDonald. He moved to Tomahawk in the early 1950’s and then moved to the Owen-Withee area in the early 1960’s, where he graduated from Owen-Withee High School in 1963. He then enrolled at north central Technical College in Wausau, where he studied to be an electrician. He served in the US Navy from February 1965 to February 1971. Mac moved to Anderson, IN where he owned a gas station for four years and then worked at the prison in Anderson as a prison guard for six years and then as an electrician. Mac then moved to Pendleton, IN where he worked as a lineman for the city’s power company for several years. He retired due to ill health and moved to Thorp in 1997. Mac was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, the Thorp American Legion, the Thorp V.F.W., the 40 & 8 Group, Black River Ramblers Good Sam Chapter camping club, Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club and the Roosevelt Rod & Gun Club.

He had many interests but especially loved working with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, hunting, fishing and camping.

He will be sadly missed by his two children: Heather Eaton of Avon, IN and Jason McDonald of Avon, IN; his fiancée, Vera Budzinski of Thorp; two grandchildren: Brandon and Katelyn Eaton, and one adopted grandson, Brett Budzinski; one brother: Fred (Joan) Petke of Thorp and two sisters: Cindy (Wayne) Satonica and Patsy (Al) Tetzlaff, both of Owen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
