(1836 - 11 Jan. 1908) Died in Unity, Jan 11, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Ann E Alderson at the age of 72 years. Deceased was born in Low Kilbourn, Yorkshire, England where she spent her maiden days. In the spring of 1856 she was married to James Alderson of Yorkshire and came to Madison in the early days when it required weeks to cross the ocean. Mrs. Alderson could well be termed one of the Pioneers having arrived in Madison in the summer of 1856, where instead of the stately builings of the present time, there were but a few old fashioned houses and but one boarding house at West depot. At that time the railroad ran no farther than Madison and grain was being hauled to Milwaukee with ox teams to be ground. After spending a few years in the capital city they moved to the town of Blooming Grove where Mr. Alderson took up farming and lived many years. To this union were born twelve children one of whom died in infancy. Deceased was left a widow in 1884 Mr. Alderson having died and left her the care of the family. In 1905 she was stricken with paralysis, which rendered her entirely helpless, her life was dispared (despaired) of, and for two years she sat in her chair and spent a great portion of her time reading the bible. The last two years of her life were spent in Unity. The deceased’s children are Mrs. Mary Campbell, Joseph T. Alderson and James Alderson. Seven remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Rachel Gransberry of Jerico Springs, Mo.; Mrs. Jennie Deerfield of Scranton, Kansas; Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Bihlmeyer of Unity; John E. Alderson of Sun Prairie; Walter, of Madison; and Robert of Blooming Grove. Services were held at the home of the latter. |
