GRANTON -- Jim Marg, 75, of Granton passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, wrapped in the loving arms of his family at his home on Granton Road after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. Pastor Bob Garbisch and Pastor Keith Lueneburg will co-officiate. Music will be provided by Margie Dahl organist. Interment will be in the Zion American Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church in Granton.

Honorary casket bearers are Colin Conn, John Marg-Patton, Michael Dybevik, William Hines and Nathan Dallin.

Jim was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Granton, the son of Elmer and Agnes (Garbisch) Marg. He attended and graduated from Granton High School, then joined the U.S. Army National Guard in July 1949. He was enlisted into the 128th Infantry, Red Arrow Division and served in the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to 1962. Jim retired from the Guards in November 1969 with 20 years of service. He was united in marriage to Rhoena Adams on April 18, 1953, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. Along with farming, Jim worked 34 years in construction and was a member of the Laborers Union Local 1407, retiring in 1996.

Jim was a member and past president and deacon of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. He was a member of the Granton Sportsman's Club, Granton Senior Citizen's Club, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, past president of the Snowmobile Club and member of the Clark County Male Chorus. He was a member and past vice president of the Laborers Union Local 1407, serving as a delegate to the North American Union state district council for 12 years.

Jim will be remembered for his love of life, appreciation of wildlife, hunting, fishing, making maple syrup and all types of outdoor activity as well as travel in the United States and abroad. Spending time with family and friends was his greatest joy. During his final days, he especially enjoyed a good game of marbles with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rhoena; six children, Ruth (John) Marg-Patton of New Brighton, Minn., Susan (Colin) Conn of Madison, David Marg of Black River Falls, Danny (Debra) Marg of Neillsville, Sherie (Michael) Dybevik of Sun Prairie, and Melissa (William) Hines of DeForest; 13 grandchildren, Colin, Tyler and Quinn Conn, Carmen and Shawn Marg-Patton, James Marg, Rebecca (Nate) Dallin, Nicole and Ryan Dybevik, Autumn and Adam Marg, Savannah Hines and Jessica Quast; two brothers, Curtis (Gladys) Marg of Clarksville, Tenn., and Erland (Jeanne) Marg of Wisconsin Dells; two sisters, Alene Lautenbach and Amber (Harvey) Pischer, both of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth; a brother-in-law, Ralph Lautenbach; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy "Joyce" Marg.
