Louma, Bertha (7 DEC 1935)

A double wedding will be celebrated next week in Chicago when the Misses Lillian and Bertha Louma, daughters of Mrs. Lydia Louma of this city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), will be married. Their brother, Eino, plans to attend the wedding.

A recent issue of the Chicago Herald-Examiner carried the following announcement:

“Seven World War heroes who were reported “killed in action”, although they have always denied it, will be present, it was announced yesterday, when one of their number, Carl Snare, 33 20 Clifton Ave., get married. That will be Dec. 7.

“It is to be a double wedding, Snare is to marry Miss Lillian Louma, 723 Rogers St., Kenilworth, and her sister, Bertha, is to marry John Clifford Curley of Chicago.

“So Snare’s buddies will be on hand, and 343 more, all members of the same outfit, Co. 49, Fifth U.S. Marines, only survivors of the “hell” through which the unit passed, will be present in thought if not in person.

“There was a forecast of the celebration in Chicago Saturday night, when the seven who were near enough gathered at the home of Frank H. Garvin, 6559 Lafayette Av., who used to be the company clerk.

“There they listened on the radio as did the other 343 in various parts of the country, to a special program in which Edward d’Anna and his 50 musicians honored them by playing the company’s battle song, ‘From the Hall of Montezuma’.”
