Thurs., 11 Jan. 1940 -----Harmon, Stella Meranda (30 Jan. 1872 – 4 Jan. 1940) Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis Harmon, 67, former resident of Pine Valley; who died January 4, at her home in Black River Falls, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, and burial was made in the Shamrock Cemetery, 11 miles south of that city. Mrs. Harmon was ill four weeks. Mrs. Harmon, nee Stella Meranda Coszell, was born January 30, 1872, to David and Myra Coszell on the farm now occupied by Otto Gehrt in Pine Valley. She remained there for several years and attended the Dells school. On April 14, 1891, she was married to Ellis Harmon of Black River Falls, and immediately the couple moved to a farm on Oak Ridge, which has been Mrs. Harmon’s home for over 48 years. Well known among southern Clark County pioneers, Mrs. Harmon maintained a wide acquaintanceship among residents in and about Neillsville through frequent visits to the home of her sister, Mrs. Cornelius Gorman, here. She was the mother of six children: Percy of Milwaukee, Freeman of Pierre, South Dakota; Mrs. Oscar (Nellie) Farrington and Mrs. Harley (Elva) Wold, both of Black River Falls; and Clarence and Lyle, at home. Among the local residents who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Bones and Mrs. A. L. Sherman and son, Dale, Mrs. Gorman was unable to attend because of poor health. |
