----- Quast, Caroline (11 MAR 1867 – 6 MAR 1943)

Mrs. Joseph Quast, 75, a resident of Clark Co. since 1907, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Quast, Granton, with whom she had been staying the past two months. She had been in poor health since suffering a stroke four years ago, and had had several strokes since that time.

Mrs. Quast, nee Caroline Fischler, daughter of the late George Fischler, was born in Jefferson, Wis., March 11, 1867, and was married at St. John’s Catholic Church at Jefferson July 3, 1888, to Joseph Quast, who preceded her in death March 22, 1942. The Quasts had observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1938.

Mr. and Mrs. Quast lived at Jefferson until 1907, then came to Clark County to farm south of Greenwood. In 1917 they moved to the city of Greenwood, which had since been the family home.

A charter member of the Auxiliary to Henry D. Wallis Post No. 238, American Legion at Greenwood, mrs. Quast was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Society.

Her six living children were at her bedside at the time of her death, and they include four daughters, Mrs. Linus (Agnes) Prock, Globe, and Mrs. Robert (Esther) Kinnear, Mrs. August (Edna) DeKennen, and Mrs. John (Florence) Pauley, all of Milwaukee, and two sons, Hugo Quast, Granton, and John Quast, Milwaukee. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Joseph, and a daughter, Mary, preceded her in death.

The body will lie in state at the Quast home in Granton until the time of the funeral services Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. The Rev. J.J. Novak will officiate at the Requiem High Mass, and interment will take place in the Catholic Cemetery at Greenwood.
