Miss Josephine Laken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laken, Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Joseph Verschay, Willard, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Verschay, in a wedding ceremony read in the Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard, Aug. 3, 1946, at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Bernard Ambrozic officiated at the double ring service, Mrs. Ivan Ruzic sang the self-accompanied solo “Ave Maria,” and played the accompaniment for the church choir during the singing of the mass.

Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. John Verschay, Chicago, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, Miss Helen Laken, the bride’s sister, and Miss Margaret Laken, Ottawa, Ill., a cousin, George Laken, the bride’s brother, and Matt Dergance.

Mrs. Verschay, as matron of honor, wore a light blue net gown designed with a matching lace bolero. The bridesmaids were attired in identical frocks of pink velverary taffeta and matching headdresses. All carried gladiolas.

For her wedding, the bride wore a white lace gown styled with a fitted bodice and long sleeves coming to points over the wrists. The bouffant net skirt ended in a long train. A tiara of seed pearls held her fingertip veil of illusion and she carried long-stemmed white gladiolas.

After the nuptial service breakfast was served to 40 guests at the Laken home at noon. Pink, blue, and white streamers and white wedding bells decorated the residence. Garden flowers and a three-tier wedding cake formed the centerpiece at the table. A reception followed and that evening a wedding dance for 150 persons was held at the West Side Hall at Willard. The following evening a reception was given in compliment to the young couple at the Verschay home. Fifty guests were present.

Mr. Verschay is chairman of the town of Hendren (Clark Co., Wis.), a position he has held for three terms. Prior to his election to the post he had been town treasurer for three terms. His bride taught school.

When they return from a wedding trip to northern Michigan and Minnesota they will reside at Greenwood.
