History: The Colby Phonograph (20 December 1888)
----Surnames: BREDEMEYER, EDMINSTER, MOHR, VANDERCOOK Source: The Tribune-Phonograph, Vol. 46, No. 52, Wednesday, Dec 27, 2006 p 4 For the past week the daily and weekly papers have had J. S. Edminster, a former resident of this place, badly injured, arm broken, killed and badly scarred. Last week Wednesday, the Chippewa Times says, as Mr. Edminster was going home from that city, and while crossing the track at a sharp curve, his buggy was struck by a freight train and completely demolished. Mr. E. was thrown out, and his arm was broken. He was not seriously injured otherwise. Mrs. A. Vandercook has removed to Spencer, where she will be with her sons. Mrs. Vandercook has been a resident of Colby for many years and has hosts of friends here who regret her removal. Miss Carrie will also be missed from the society of the young people, among whom she was a general favorite. The people of Spencer have made a valuable acquisition to their society, while Colby sustains a proportionate loss. Last Saturday evening Fred Bredemeyer received a telegram announcing the death of his father, at noon that day. Mr. Bredemeyer had been in ordinary health but was stricken suddenly with apoplexy. Fred took the train Sunday night, for New Holstein, to attend the funeral. He met Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mohr at the depot here and they finished the journey together. |
