Henry Erickson, working for Matt La Fever, Southeast of this place, was struck on the head by a falling limb one day last week, and so severely injured that, for the time being, he lost his reason. He rushed to the river with his ax, cut a hole through the ice and jumped in. The water was not deep enough to take in his whole body, but was cold enough to bring him to his senses. He then got out of the water and made his way to the house. Dr. Freeman, of Unity, was called to dress the man’s wounds and we learn that his is getting along now very nicely.

A number of friends of Miss Carrie Wicker surprised that young lady by gathering under the parental roof, in fact, by taking the house by storm, last evening. The occasion was the seventeenth anniversary of Miss Carrie’s birthday. The party enjoyed themselves, hugely, in pastimes of various sorts until about half-past ten o’clock when they repaired to their respective homes, wishing Carrie at least, one hundred returns of the happy day.

The old, old story. A man named Thomas Teicht tried the trick of holding out his left hand and striking at it with an ax. He hit it. He was splitting kindling wood holding the stick with his left hand and the ax with his right hand. The helve struck his leg, the ax struck his hand, cutting and mangling the flesh and bones in bad shape. Dr. Grivelly dressed the hand and has hope of saving all the fingers.
