----Surnames: BRUNKHORST, RILLING, SCHERER Source: The Tribune-Phonograph, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, Vol. 46, No. 44 November 2, 1944: FINE WEATHER APPRECIATED. The exceptionally fine fall weather has been more than just a topic of conversation. It has been especially helpful for those who have outside work to do and those who have leisure to spend at outside activities. Among the improvements noted recently are on the exteriors of the Rilling home, which has new siding, and on the Brunkhorst and Scherer homes which have a shingle covering. Brown roll brick is being put on Tony’s Barber shop this week. A much needed warm rain, accompanies by a little thunder, came during the early hours this morning. The sunrise brought with it another delightful day. The nights have been as beautiful as the days with clear skies and a big, bright moon. Halloween night saw groups of young folks out, some with harmless jack-o-lanterns and noise makers; others, with exuberance out of control, engaging in pranks neither safe for other nor themselves, found they received a little guidance from authorities. Hunters are finding the weather ideal for their sports and besides are bringing meat home for the table, and fishermen are having a prolonged season. Today, weather reports forecast colder weather. November 2, 1944: CLOTHING WANTED FOR RUSSIAN WAR RELIEF. Schools in Clark County are launching on a drive for old clothes and shoes for Russian relief. The goal is a carload or 30,000 pounds, to be shipped from the country. |
