History: The Abbotsford Tribune (21 December 1944)
----Surname: KRIGBAUM Source: The Tribune-Phonograph, Wed., December 20, 2006, Vol. 46, No. 51, p 4 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR TRAINING High school graduates eligible for the free college schooling provided by the Army Specialized Reserve Training Program have less than three weeks to file their applications, it was pointed out today by Colonel W. Lutz Krigbaum, commanding officer of the Wisconsin-Michigan district of the Sixth Service Command. All high school graduates, including those who expect to graduate at the close of this current semester are urged to discuss the subject of ASTRP training with their high school principal, or to write directly to the Milwaukee Examining Board, at 234 North Broadway, Milwaukee 2, Wis. Midnight, Dec. 31, marks the final date on which applications will be accepted. WINTER BEGINS TODAY Every leap year, Dec. 21 is the shortest day of the year. So Thursday at 6:15 p.m. the winter season really begins. A cold wave which began Sunday sent the thermometer to 10 degrees below zero, Monday, and for those who weren’t prepared it was the winter routine of thawing out frozen pipes and shivering in the meantime. The cold weather was hailed by the younger generation as it speeded up the ice pond which grew thicker and is now about ready for use. The weatherman has forecast colder weather and snow flurries. |
