----Albrecht, Herman J. (2 March 1865 – 24 June 1940)

Herman J. Albrecht, 75, for 35 years a resident of Clark County passed away at his home in the town of Hewett Monday, June 24, at 8:30 a.m. with a heart attack. Mr. Albrecht had not been well for several years, but not seriously sick until the 15th of last April. He was a member of the Congregational church of Neillsville.

He was born at Falken-Wald, Germany, March 2, 1865, to August and Henrietta (Kruger) Albrecht. He was brought to America by his parents when he was two years of age, the family settling near Dartfort, (now Green Lake), Wisconsin. The family of August Albrecht made three unsuccessful attempts to start for America, each time the boat upon which they eventually made the trip, was driven back by storm to Bremen Haver. It took from March to December to make the voyage.

Mr. Albrecht was married to Emma Louise Theil, October 8, 1891, at Ripon, Wisconsin. They came to Clark County September 13, 1905, and purchased 160 acres of land in the town of Hewett. There was only a small clearing at that time and the buildings were crude log structures. Through modest living and hard work Mr. and Mrs. Albrecht and their children added another eighty, clea5red practically the entire farm and replaced the old structures with fine modern buildings. He also owns a tract of 100 acres of land in the town of Pine Valley.

He is survived by his wife and three children; Clara, Mrs. Henry Collins, and Paul, Hewett, and Richard of Neillsville; 7 grandchildren and a granddaughter; four brothers, Frank, of Ripon; August, Markesan; John, and Emil, Ripon; and two sisters; Mrs. Rudolph Baker, Fairwater and Mrs. Frank Baker, Beaver Dam. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the farm home Wednesday June 26, at 2 p.m. Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery. Two sons, Paul and Richard Albrecht, four grandsons, Sidney, Robert, Jesse, and Clarence Collins, acted as pallbearers.
