Ida M. Draxler

Ida M. (Beyerl) Draxler, 86, died Jan. 11, 2007, at her home in Hewitt. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Michael's Church in Hewitt at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18. The Rev. Eric Linzmaier will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hewitt. Pallbearers will be Ida's seven sons, John R., Michael, Paul, Peter, Steven, James and Patrick Draxler.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home in Marshfield with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Ida was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Colby to Frank and Marie (Kiefer) Beyerl. Her mother died when Ida was 5, and she was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Elizabeth (Klavinski) Beyerl. She attended Colby High School and graduated from Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. On May 19, 1943, Ida married Raymond C. Draxler at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby.

Ida was employed as a nurse at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield; Angus Hospital in Lawton, Okla.; Muskogee General Hospital in Muskogee, Okla.; and Norwood Health Center (Director of Nursing Service) in Marshfield. After her retirement in 1985, she worked part time at Draxler's Service Quick Mart in Hewitt.

Ida was active in Cub Scout leadership at the local and district level for eight years, co-editor of the Hewitt Happenings newsletter since 1985, charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Hewitt Memorial Post 9923 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and serving as secretary from 1980 to 2002, member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary of Marshfield, member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. Michael's Catholic Church of Hewitt and as a volunteer at Marshfield Area Respite Care Center.

Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Ida enjoyed reading, Wisconsin history, traveling, music and theater, tending her yard, volunteer work and especially cherished times with family and friends.

Ida is survived by four daughters, Kathryn (James) Wartner of Scottsdale, Ariz., Judy (Thomas) Bissonett of Eden Prairie, Minn., Marie (Darrell) Hawks of Marshfield, and Sheila (Jeff) Krajnik of Roanoke, Va.; seven sons, John R. (Sue) of Pittsville, Michael (Vickie) of Hewitt, Paul of Appleton, Peter of Ferndale, Wash., Steven of Stratford, James (Sheila) of Kiel, and Patrick (Sandy) of Marshfield; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by five sisters, Sophie (Earl) Schigley and Laura (Erwin) Meyer, both of Colby, Helen (George) Edlebeck of DePere, Margaret (Ed) Charnitz of Milwaukee and Marie (Herb) Waldhart of Stetsonville; two brothers, Paul (Lucille) Beyerl of Lisle, Ill., and Jacob (Rosemary) Beyerl of Colby; stepsister Genevieve (Ernest) Fiend of Colby; sisters-in-law Kitty (Karl) Draxler, and Sister Paul Mary Draxler; brothers-in-law Karl Draxler and Ed Charnitz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Raymond, an infant son, sisters Martha (William) Dolan and Gertrude Godlewski; brothers Arnold, John and Francis Beyerl; stepsister Angeline Grieger; and stepbrothers Gilbert Grieger and Anthony and Frank Zettler.

Ida will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her gentle and generous spirit, her optimism, courage and respect for nature.
