Phillips, Mary S. (22 DEC 1840 - 2 JUL 1919)

Mrs. George N. Phillips died at her home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), July 2, 1919, after a few days illness, aged 78 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Mary S. McKeand, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McKeand, was born at Rockford, Ill., Dec. 22, 1840. When five years old she came with her parents to Waukesha Co., Wis., and grew to womanhood there. On Jan. 26, 1860 she was married to Mr. George N. Phillips at Waukesha. Mr. Phillips enlisted in the Civil War and she made her home in Madison till his return in 1865. They came to Clark County, Wis. in 1872 and have made their home here ever since. Mrs. Phillips was a woman of rarely fine qualities, a good wife, a kind neighbor and a consistent Christian. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and took an active part as long as her health and strength permitted, in all the activities of the church. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the members of which attended her funeral in a body. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. G. W. Longenecker.

There are left to mourn her death her husband and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Henry Hanson of Waukesha, one brother, Ed McKeand of Beloit, and two sisters, Mrs. S. E. Hutchings of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Libbie Russel of Snohomish, Wash.
