Surnames: HANER GREEN BUSSIN SHORT CLIFFORD ---Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN & PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 10/16/1919 ---Haner, Lydia (26 DEC 1833 - 9 OCT 1919) Mrs. Lydia Haner, one of the oldest residents of this locality (Clark County, Wis.), died at the home of her son, J. W. Short, in Levis, Clark County, Wis. Deceased, whose maiden name was Lydia Green, was born at Kingston, N.Y., Dec. 26, 1833. She grew to womanhood there and in 1853 was married to R. W. Short. In May 1860, they came to Wisconsin, stopping for a time with her sister on Wedges Creek. Later they moved to Neillsville, having a house in the town and living on their farm nearby in summer. The husband enlisted in the Civil War and died in Georgia. They had three sons: J. W. Short, who lives here; Arthur Short in Seattle and Frank Short in Illinois; also one daughter, Mrs. Nettie Clifford of Stevens Point, all of who are living. In 1868 Mrs. Short married George Haner and to them was born one daughter, Mrs. Nora Bussin, now in San Francisco, Cal. Later Mr. Haner died. She continued to make her home in Neillsville, occasionally going to live for a time with her children. For some time past she made her home with her son, Wallace Short, where she was kindly cared for until she died. She was one of the active pioneer women of this region, alert and strong in mind and body, and doing well her part in life, until weakened be advancing age. The funeral was held at her son's home Saturday, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Nettie Clifford and J. W. Clifford of Stevens Point and Miss Maude Welsh of Oshkosh. The relatives wish to thank all who gave them help and sympathy during Mrs. Haner's sickness, death and burial. |
