Leason died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 29, 1919, aged nearly 84 years. Alban Spencer Leason was born Nov. 12, 1835 in the town of Alexander, Genessee Co., N.Y. His father died when he was seven years old and at the age of ten he came to Milwaukee with an older brother. He was married Feb. 27, 1859 to Elmina A. Caldwell. They lived for a time in Washington Co. and later moved to Hingham in Sheboygan Co. In 1880 they moved to Neillsville and this has been his home ever since. Mr. Leason early took up the pump business in which he became an expert, and in which he made some valuable inventions. Later he added windmills and all over Clark County the Leason mills were erected. For many years Mr. Leason took an active part in business and municipal affairs in Neillsville. He was a man of the highest type in honor and dependability, and was universally respected. His genial manner, quiet humor and kindliness made everybody his friend. His wife died Aug. 21, 1900 and during the years since he has not been active in business. As age increased he grew feebler in bodily strength, but his mind remained active and keen to the last. He leaves two sons, Dr. W. A. Leason and Ralph. During his declining years, Ralph has been almost constantly with his father and cared for him tenderly. He leaves also an adopted daughter, Mrs. Letta Nason of Seattle, Wash. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. |
