Obit: Becken, George (1887 – 1937)
Surnames: BECKEN MOWERY Source: OWEN ENTERPRISE (Owen, Clark County, Wis.) 07/01/1937 Becken, George (3 JUN 1887 – 28 JUN 1937) George Becken, age 50, a farmer living in the town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.), three miles west of Curtiss on the north Owen road, was killed on Monday afternoon, about four o’clock when he fell from a hay rake on which he was working and was strangled to death. Mr. Becken was subject to fainting spells and it is thought he suffered from one of thes attacks which caused him to fall from the rake and become tangled in the lines and machinery with the fatal result. His body was found by his mother, Mrs. Martha Becken, who lived with him. The deceased was born in the town of Hoard, June 3, 1887. He was employed by the John S. Owen Lumber Company for over 12 years. About 20 years ago he took up farming on the present farm, which has since been his home. Mr. Becken was unmarried. He leaves to mourn, his mother, Mrs. Martha Becken; three brothers, Gustav of Owen; Halvor of Green Grove; Thorval of Spring Valley; and one sister, Mrs. Ernest Mowery of Curtiss. His father passed away on Jan. 13, 1937. Funeral services were held today at two o’clock from the Griebenow-Weirich Funeral Home with burial in the family lot of the Lutheran Cemetery west of Curtiss. The Rev. J. Rostad officiated. |
