Surnames: BRAUN HORN ALPERSTETT VOLLRATH KNIFKE MITCHEL Source: Greenwood Gleaner (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) 01/06/1944 Braun, William (24 MAY 1851 – 1 JAN 1944) Wm. Braun, son of Wm. And Anna Braun, was born May 24, 1851 in Germany and came to the United States when 18 years of age, settling in Sheboygan, where he was united in marriage on April 14, 1880 to Miss Amelia Horn. They came to the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where he resided until his death. To this union were born 6 children, one passing away in infancy, four daughters and one son. They also had one adopted son, Elmer. Two daughters preceded him in death, Mrs. Wm. Alperstett (Selma), Mrs. Geo. Vollrath (Olga). Mr. Braun passed away New Years morning, Jan. 1, 1944, at his home after a few days illness, having reached the age of 92 years, 7 months and 7 days. He is survived by one son Ed of the town of Longwood, one adopted son Elmer of Sacramento, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Theo Knifke (Minnie) and Mrs. Norman Mitchel (Setona), both of Chicago; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Louisa Horn of Greenwood. Funeral services were held at the Braun Settlement Church on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1944, at 2:00 p.m.. Rev. B.M. Fresenborg officiated and he was laid to rest in the Braun Settlement Cemetery (Forest Hill). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who passed away Jan. 30, 1938, three children, three brothers, Frederick, Chris and Gottfried Braun, and two sisters, Mrs. Tena Horn and Miss Eva Braun. The pallbearers were: Jim Metcalf, Jake Speich, Herman Damerow, Ted Braun, Henry Horn and Wm. Schlinsog. |
