Aberg, Jacob (12 SEP 1864 – 4 MAY 1944)

Jacob Aberg, son of John and Kari Aberg, was born in Lystersogn, Norway, Sept. 12, 1864 and came to this country with his parents when two years old. They settled at West Prairie, near Viroqua. He was married there to Kari Nelson on May 29, 1889. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary five years ago.

In 1920 they came to Clark County, settling on a farm six miles north of Greenwood, and have lived here ever since. Mr. Aberg was a former chairman of the Town of Longwood and a member of United Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

He passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Thursday, May 4, 1944, following an illness of several years, and has spent the past two months in the hospital. Death was caused by Septicemia.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Christ (Clara) Leirma, Mrs. Peter (Nora) Verdereckson, and Mrs. George (Mabel) Bondas, all of Ferryville, and three sons, Clarence and Albert, Owen, and Arthur of Viroqua, 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at United Lutheran Church, Greenwood, Monday at 9:00 a.m. and the body was taken to Ferryville where a service was held at 3:00 p.m. at Freeman Church and he was laid to rest in the Ferryville Cemetery, Rev. A.E. Norson officiated at all the services.

The pallbearers were: Arthur Johnson of Humbird, Godfrey Dyre, Leonard Johnson, Elmer Johnson, Arthur Flikke and E.S. Ellingson.
