Obit: Brauneis, Joseph Sr. (1867 – 1944)
Surnames: BRAUNEIS BLUEMEL KURTZ Source: Greenwood Gleaner (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) 07/20/1944 Brauneis, Joseph Sr. (14 MAR 1867 – 12 JUL 1944) Joseph Brauneis was born in Osterhofen, Bavaria, Germany, on March 14, 1867. After a grade school education and confirmation he became a baker’s apprentice and as was customary went about the country in pursit of his work. As a young man he came to the United States, first to New York City, where he spent several years, and then to Chicago. In 1893 he was there united in marriage to Bertha Bluemel. Their three children were Arthur, now of Chicago, Ill., Joseph W. of Faribault, Minn., and Elsie, deceased in 1930. This marriage was dissolved by the passing of Mrs. Brauneis in 1927. A year later he married Mrs. Elizabeth Kurtz of Chicago, who survives him. In 1915 the family had moved to the vicinity of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), first to the northwest of our city and then to the south city limits. In 1916 he became affiliated with Trinity Lutheran Church. For at least 10 years the deceased filled the office of deacon and trustee. A few weeks ago he suffered a series of heart attacks which also hospitalized him for a short period but which finally caused his expected yet unexpected death on Wednesday morning, July 12th, 1944. Besides the above mentioned mourners are daughter-in-law, three stepsons, Adolph and Tom of Chicago; George of Stevens Point, two step-daughters-in-law, three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. Burial took place in the local cemetery on July 15th after a church service, both conducted by Pastor George Heilman. Acting as pallbearers were: Wm. Rossow, Hugo Lenz, Emil Schendel, George Zuhlke, Henry Schendel and Wm. Baumgartner. Flower bearers were: Mrs. H. Lenz, Mrs. W. Rossow, Mrs. Walter Durst, Mrs. Caroline Horn. Those from away who attended were Arthur Brauneis, Chicago; Joseph Brauneis and family, Faribault, Minn.; Adolph Kurtz, Tom Kurtz and wife of Chicago; Geo. Kurtz and wife of Stevens Point. |
