Dietsche, Amanda (31 Dec. 1870 – 16 April 1941)

Mrs. Amanda Dietsche passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Leo W. and Dr. Martha A. Foster on Wednesday, April 16, 1941, at Neillsville, Wis., at the age of 70 years, three months and 16 days. Mrs. Dietsche was born in West Prussia, Germany, on December 31, 1870, the daughter of Albert and Amelia Abraham.

At the age of 15 years she came to America and kept house for her brother, August, at Menomonie, Wis. On June 28, 1890, she was married to Luis Dietsche at Bloomer, Wis., from whence they established their home near Sand Creek, Dunn County. The couple was one of the first settlers to pioneer farm lands in that area.

To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters. One daughter, Marie, died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Dietsche resided on their farm 38 years. Upon retirement they moved to Bloomer. Mr. Dietsche passed away December 31, 1937, after which the widow made her home with her daughter, Dr. Martha A. Foster.

Surviving are two daughters, Dr. M. A. Foster, Neillsville, and Mrs. T. A. Reisinger, Minneapolis. Two sons, Harold C., Bloomer, and Herman L. Dietsche Colfax; Two brothers, August of Colfax, and Charles Abraham Rice Lake. Two sisters, Mrs. John Meuli, Chippewa Falls, and Mrs. Oscar Krause, Colfax, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Dietsche was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Neillsville, and also a charter member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Poplar Creek, Dunn County. Brief services were conducted at Neillsville, Friday, April 18; at 9 a.m. Dr. Sarah Rosekrans accompanied By Mrs. Marie Covell rendered the beautiful vocal number “Crossing the Bar.”

At 2 p.m. services were conducted at St. John’s Poplar Creek parish where special arrangements were made in recognition of her life long membership. Both services were conducted by Rev. Wm. A. Baumann, who also was the former pastor of this parish. Mrs. Jaster and Mrs. Baumann, accompanied by Rev. H. Pankow, sang one of her favorite numbers in the German language, “Let Me Be Thine Forever.”

Burial was made in the family lot of the church cemetery.
