Thurs., 25 Sept. 1941 Bird, Joe (1882 – 17 Sept. 1941) Joe Bird passed away at his home in the town of Weston at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at the age of 59 years and 7 months. He had been in poor health since January. In February he was taken to Rochester for treatment. On the 19th day of June he underwent an operation at Marshfield, returning to his home on the 29th of July. He seemed to be gaining nicely until the 5th day of September, when he suddenly became worse, remaining at his home until his death. He was born in Richland County in 1882 to Wencle and Mary Bird. He grew to manhood there and in 1914 he was married to Rosie Snorek. They spent one year in Richland County with his brother, James. In 1915 they purchased their present home in the town of Weston. Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Erest at home, and Vilma, Mrs. Mortimer, York. One daughter, Jessie, preceded him in death in 1932. He also is survived by three sisters, Mary, Mrs. Wencle Landsinger of Valton, Wis., Rosie, Mrs. Pacel and Emma, Mrs. Frank Kaukl of Hillsboro and one brother, James, of Valton. His stepmother of Chicago also survives. The pallbearers included: Erick Lueck, William Buettner, Alvin Wendt, Ray Mortimer, Anton Schaefer and Len Boon. Vera Diercks, Eva Wendt, Theda Forma, Mrs. Frederick Wendt, Bessie Hooker and Marie Diercks acted as flower girls. Funeral services were held at Friday at the Schiller funeral home at 2 p.m., following brief services in the home at 1:30, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Those from away who attended the rites were; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Hooker, daughter, Bessie and son Marvin, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kaukl, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stepha and Mrs. Rosie Pacel and son, all of Hillsboro; Mr. and Mrs. Wencle Landsinger, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Landsinger, Valton; Mr. and Mrs. W. Landsinger, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Gus. Landsinger, Mr. and Mrs. William Plachetka, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Henderson, Wonewoc; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Miller, son, Milton, and daughter, Mrs. Chester Knudtson, Port Edwards.
