Ayer, Elaine J. (Marriage - 22 Jun. 1946)

Miss Elaine J. Ayer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ayer, Spencer, Route 1, and Owen Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hanson, Colby, Route 2, were united in marriage in a ceremony performed June 22, at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Otto Hoffman in Zion Lutheran Church at Colby.

Miss Jeanette Sestol sang “I Love You Truly” at the beginning of ceremony and “The Lord’s Prayer” at the end of the service.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white silk taffeta dress designed with an entrained net overskirt and carried red roses and ? tied with white satin ribbons. Her fingertip veil of illusion was caught to a tiara of pearlized orange blossoms and she held the same handkerchief her mother carried on her wedding day.

Elaine Johnson, of Unity, as maid of honor, was attired in a princess-styled frock of frothy white marquisette trimmed with velvet bows. The groom’s sister, Darlene Hanson, in white net over satin, was bridesmaid. Matching blusher veils completed their costumes and they carried red roses and white sweet peas from which fell red satin ribbon streamers.

? Hanson, Colby, brother of the groom, and Eugene Zeuske, his cousin, attended the groom.

The groom and his attendants wore brown suits and white carnation boutonnieres.

Both Mrs. Ayer and Mrs. Hanson wore black ensembles, trimmed with white and had corsages of red roses. , Mr. and Mrs. Hanson have recently returned from Canada and northern Wisconsin, where they spent their honeymoon. For traveling, the bride wore a cocoa-brown suit and matching accessories.

Following the wedding ceremony a reception was held at 7:30 p.m. at the home of the bride’s parents for 30 guests. White streamers and wedding bells canopied the ceiling and the table was centered with a wedding cake flanked with candles.

Mrs. Hanson is a graduate of the Unity High School with the class of 1946. Her husband who is employed as a cheesemaker at the Welcome Dairy in the Town of Hull, was granted a discharge from army service in December, 1945 after 3 ½ years of which were spent in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

A wedding dance was held at the Walter’s Pavillion at Colby.
