Creviston, Sarah Ann (16 Nov. 1856 – 25 Feb. 1940)

The Angel of Death summoned another from the ranks of old settlers when Mrs. Frank Creviston passed away quiet unexpectedly about 4:00 o’clock last Sunday morning. Mrs. Creviston suffered an illness a few weeks ago, but had apparently about recovered. She had been attending to her household duties as usual, assisted in the later years by Mr. Creviston, and had not complained of further illness.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, the sermon being given by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Pierstorff. Many friends and relatives assembled for the last rites. The quartet sang three favorite hymns of the deceased and her family: “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Upper Garden,” and “Nearer My God to Thee.” Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.

Sara Ann Gaylord, third in a family of eleven children, was born to George and Hester Gaylord, at Mineral Point, Wis., on November 16, 1856. She answered the final summons at her home in Humbird Feb. 25, 1940, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 9 days.

On July 5, 1874, she became the bride of Frank A. Creviston, at Springville, Wis., a happy union destined to endure the more than sixty five years. To them three children were born: Roy A., of Eau Claire; Charles H., of Camptonville, Calif.; and James F., of Fairchild.

The first years of their married life were spent in Springville vicinity. Later they moved to Valley Junction and came to Humbird in 1883, locating first at Nettleton’s Corners, and then on a farm until 1933. Advancing age brought them into the village, where they have been resided. Mrs. Creviston was a life long member of the Methodist Church. Their wedding anniversaries were an event each year in the community, the sixty-fifth last July was the cause of a surprise gathering of friends at their home.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene Gaylord, Sparta, Lester Gaylord, Rockland, George Gaylord, British Columbia; and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Black, of Gronlid, Sask. Canada.
