-Surnames: AMACHER, GROTTKE, HUNSICKER, KELPIN, MARG, SCHEELER, SCHMITZ -Grottke, Dorothy (Scheeler) (17 May 1909-9 Feb 2007) Source: The Tribune-Phonograph, Vol. 47, No. 7, Wed., February 14, 2007, p 10 Dorothy Grottke Dorothy Grottke, 97, Colby, died February 9th, 2007 Services were held February 13th at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford. The Rev. Paul C. Hunsicker presided. Interment will be in the spring in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Dorothy was born May 17th, 1909 in Township of Granton to Herman and Mary (Kelpin) Scheeler. She married William Grottke in 1929. After farming the home farm in Granton, Dorothy and William went on the road with bridge and road crews. She cooked the crew meals. They bought and ran the Abbotsford Clothing Store in Abbotsford and moved to Sauk City where they purchased Grottke’s Rooming House in 1956 and Dorothy ran the establishment for 40 years. In 1999, Dorothy moved back to the Abbotsford area. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, quilting, euchre or skip-bo and telling stories. Survivors include two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; daughter Arlene Schmitz; son Billy Jr.; sisters Edna Marg and Gertrude Amacher; and brother Carl Scheeler. Maurina-Community Funeral Home, Abbotsford, assisted the family with arrangements. |
