Laack, Fred (25 MAR 1847 – 19 JAN 1933)

Funeral services for Fred Laack, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 1933, at the home of his son, Oscar, were held at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. John Brandt officiating. Burial took place at the Memorial Cemetery with Arthur Baehr, Gust Busse, Charles Tessmer, Henry Marquardt, Oscar Schrader and Albert Nixdorf acting as pallbearers.

Fred Laack was born March 25, 1847 in Germany and was 85 years, 9 months and 24 days old at time of death. He had been very feeble for more than a year, yet his death was a sudden shock to his loved ones and his many friends. When a young man, Mr. Laack left Germany for the United States and settled in Sheboygan County. In October of 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Distelhorst of the same county. A few years later the happy couple moved to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) and settled their homestead, now known as the Albert Beck farm. About 25 years ago the Laacks moved into the present Schneider home and, after living there a few years, moved to the Laack home just south of the village. On April 17, 1914, Mrs. Laack passed away and since that time Mr. Laack made his home with Oscar and his family.

An old settler of this country, Mr. Laack was well known by many in this section and his personal qualities attracted a host of friends to him. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and an active participant until old age intervened.

Besides his son, Oscar, he leaves two grandchildren, Misses Gertrude and Irene Laack, one sister, Mrs. Carl Juers, Sr., and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

Out of town relatives present for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bickman, Miss Dorothy Schroeder, George Schneider and Emil Corbs, of Franklin; Mrs. Carl Juers, Sr., Mrs. Carl Juers, Jr. and Louis Juers, of Plymouth, Carl Distelhorst, a brother-in-law, Mrs. Henry Gessert, Sr., and Mrs. Henry Gessert, Jr., of Sheboygan.

The Clarion joins the many friends in extending the hand of sympathy and understanding to the mourning ones.
