Krainak, Mary (2 FEB 1859 – 5 FEB 1933)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Krainak, who passed away Sunday evening at the Marshfield Hospital, were held Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at the St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Pitzenberger officiating. Interment took place in the Memorial Cemetery with August Sauter, Fred Mayer, Alvin Stelzel, Henry Jantsch, Rudolph Umlauft and Frank Hollmann acting as pallbearers.

Mrs. Krainak suffered an attack of the flu a few weeks ago but was much improved last week. On Friday she became much worse and was rushed from the farm home east of town to the St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, where she passed away Sunday. Death was caused by flu and complications.

Mary Brumucker was born February 2, 1859 in Hungary and was 74 years and 3 days old at time of death. She grew to womanhood in her native country and in 1877 she was united in marriage to George Krainak. In 1881 they, in company with eleven other families, came to the United States and settled east of the village along the big Eau Pleine. The following year the Krainaks moved to upper Michigan, where they lived until 1893, when they moved to their present farm home in the town of Holton (Marathon Co.). Twelve children were born to the happy couple, four of whom preceded their mother in death. Mr. Krainak passed away in the fall of 1914.

Mrs. Krainak was a lovable woman who possessed a large number of friends. She was a kind and understanding wife and mother, one who did not complain in hardship but lent an air of cheerfulness wherever she went. Although she suffered much the past few years, she was always kind and sweet. The children and many friends will constantly have the happiness of knowing her great appreciation of the last act of love for her in the form of a birthday party last Thursday evening. Such opportunities help to take away the bitterness and heaviness of heart that comes when a loved one is lost from this life, and too, her counsel and steadfastness shall be an ever present blessing.

She leaves one son, Herman, at home, and seven daughters, Mrs. Mary Stowers, and Miss Anna, at home, Mrs. Fred Leonhard, town of Holton, Mrs. Louis Wanke, Athens, Mrs. Frances Lindberg, Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Susan Kaiser, Ironwood, Mich., and Mrs. Josephine Meyer, Racine, to mourn her loss. She also leaves one brother, Andrew Brumucker, and 17 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Clarion joins the friends and neighbors in offering deepest sympathy to the mourning ones.
