-Kubaski, Mathias (10 Sept. 1851 – 9 Feb. 1935)

Mathias Kubaski, old settler in this community, died at an Eau Claire hospital, where he was taken for treatment, last Saturday after a long illness with asthma.

Funeral services were held at St. John’s Church in Fairchild Monday forenoon, and were attended by a number of relatives and neighbors from this vicinity. Burial was in the church cemetery in that village.

Mr. Kubaski was born in Poland, Sept. 10th, 1851. He came to America when a young man, in February, 1872, and worked in the woods about Fairchild. In 1878, he was united in holy wedlock with Miss Antona [Antonia] Bell, and the next year, 1879, they settled on the farm north of town, which has since been the home of the family.

Four children were born to this union, three of whom survive, Mrs. Mary Shultz, who lives near Fairchild, and Stephen and Peter, residing on the home farm. The wife and mother passed away on Sept. 9, 1920. None of Mr. Kubaski’s brothers or sisters survives.

Deceased was an industrious farmer, a good neighbor, and a men well liked by all who knew him. Illness caused his retirement from active duties several years ago and has confined him to his home for some time. His death is mourned by the immediate family, a number of other relatives and many friends. He attained the age of 83 years, 4 months and 29 days.
