The church basement was decorated with streamers of pink, blue and white. Games were played after which a lunch was served. One of the highlights of the evening was the impromptu Orchestra with soloist Chester Olson and about 20 other guests. Those present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crossgrove and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meyer of Colby. Source: MARATHON COUNTY REGISTER (Unity, Clark Co. Wis.) 07/02/1948 A wedding in the Methodist Church at Unity Saturday afternoon, June 26, united in marriage Miss Doris Crossgrove, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Crossgrove, Unity, and Gilbert M. Hoesly, son of Mrs. Mathilda Hoesly, Basca. The double ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Frederick Smith before an altar banked with cut flowers and lighted candlebra. While the guests were being seated by ushers Ray Cook and Kendrick Johnson, Mrs. Tom Loughead played nuptial music and accompanied Rae Ann Loughead when she sang, “I Love You Truly” and “Always.” The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in entrained gown designed with fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline and long sleeves coming to points at the wrist. Her finger tip veil, edged with lace, was fastened to a beaded tiara. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Attending the bride as matron of honor was the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs. Fred A. Witt, Adams. She was dressed in blue crepe styled with fitted bodice, shirred front and V neckline. She carried a bouquet of roses and carnations. Victor Crossgrove, Wausau, brother of the bride, served as best man. A reception for relatives and friends was held after the ceremony. Miss Anne Parmenter, a cousin of the bride, presided at the bride’s table. Others assisting about the room were the Misses LaVon Domer, Faith Mabbott and Audrey and Ione Pickett. The bride chose a dark blue dress with grey accessories for her traveling emsemble. The couple left for a week’s honeymoon at Niagara Falls. After July 5 they will be home to friends at New Giarus, where the groom is employed. Mrs. Hoesly was graduated from the Unity High School and Central State Teachers College at Stevens Point. She has been teaching for seven years; for the past two years at New Giarus. Out of town guests for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Witt, Adams; Mrs. Nellie Erickson, Gladys Loughead and Mrs. May Dammel, Choklo, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crossgrove, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Drews and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Drews, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Johnson and sons Eric and Kendrick, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Powers and children, Dick and Carol, Kassan, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Parmenter, Ann, Bob, Dick and Jean Parmenter, Dick Baer and Emily Riemey, all of Neenah; George Loughead and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Scott, Bellville, and Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Witt of Wisconsin Rapids. The Register joins their many local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy wedded life. |
