Rev. H. C. Hinz officiated at the services and burial was made in the West Spencer cemetery. The accident occurred when Mr. and Mrs. Bruss were returning from visiting friends in Unity. They turned off of 13 and onto Highway 153 and when the car stalled on the railroad track, Mr. Bruss got out to see if a train was coming. Mrs. Bruss, upon returning to the car after seeking help to pull the car off the tracks, was struck by a car driven by Alex Schwantes. The victim was taken by Mr. Bruss and Schwantes to Colby and was pronounced dead by Dr. A. L. Schemner at 1:30 A.M. Marathon County Coroner John Hildensperger said that no inquest would be held. Lydia Damrow was born March 19, 1903 to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Damrow in the Town of Sherman, and was married to Otto Bruss at St. John’s Lutheran Church, July 15, 1920. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Willard, Milwaukee; and a daughter, Beatrice, a junior in Spencer High School. Three brothers, Edward, Henry and Martin, who live in the west, also survive, as does her father, who has been making his home with the Bruss family since the death of Mrs. Damrow. A sister also preceded Mrs. Bruss in death. Pallbearers at the funeral were Leonard, Martin, and Elmer Bruss, Reuben and Lester Frank and Albert Manz. |
