Dorchester – 4 Aug. 1882

Editors Times: Friday evening, July 28th, in one long to be remembered by our young people. The Good Templars at Colby gave a party and the leading members of Evergreen Lodge were invited to attend. Eight couples left here on the freight and after many tribulations reaches the scene of festivity. They all report a grand good time, and they didn’t “come home till morning.”

E. H. Winchester has a good croquet ground and is a good player. Everybody plays; it is the leading attraction for the ladies and gents of leisure. Dr. Phalen has a military eye on all games played.

Grimmer, realizing the lack of amusements in town, has built a bowling alley. Daytime and nighttime one is reminded of Hendrick Hudson and his crew at their famous game of nine pins.

Jacob Heim and A. Menzie have opened a meet market on Railroad Ave.

Gus. Homestead has a fine stock of drugs and medicines in the Reding building. This is a want long felt.

S. H. Hugoboom will have the No. 1 hotel on the line when it is completed. Geo. Holeton is head car penter.

Elmer Tennant commences his school on Monday next.

Orla Foeter, of Friendship, N. Y., is in town, guest of his brother, Edgar Foeter. He contemplates making Dorchester his home for the school year.

Fred Parmeter and family leave town soon, making Westboro their stopping place.

The mill will be closed the first of the coming week, as but a small stock of logs were got in last winter.
