Decker, Daniel Edward (05 Mar 1930 - 01 Feb 2007)

Daniel Edward Decker, 76, Eagle River, died following a lengthy illness February 1, 12007 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rhinelander.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield at 10:30 a.m., June 16, 2007. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Dan was born March 5, 1930, in Marshfield to Gilbert and Eileen (Mattison) Decker. He spent his younger days in Marshfield attending Sacred Heat Parochial School and was a 1948 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and for much of that time was stationed in Guam. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin, School of Pharmacy, Madison and graduated in 1956.

Dan and Betty Olson were married at St. Paul’s University Chapel and moved to Abbotsford. In 1961 they purchased the Wing Drug Store and operated their own store for several years.

He served on the Abbotsford school Board and was an officer in the Chamber of Commerce. Dan was also a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Later, Dan opened a new pharmacy in Mercer and after twenty years, closed that store due to ill health.

Dan is survived by his former wife, Betty, Abbotsford; two children, Tom Decker and Susan (Jay) Westberg; a grandson, Joseph Westberg, Wausau; a brother Richard (Audrey) Decker of Eagle River; twin half-sisters, Eileen (Ted) Daster of Lake Tomahawk and Loreen (Steve) Dimmick of Beaver Creek, Ohio and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Howard Warrick
