Pohl, Irene (24 Jul. 1901 – 28 Feb. 1949)

Mrs. Ervin Pohl, 47, a former resident of Colby, died of cancer Monday morning at a hospital in Milwaukee. She was a daughter of Mrs. Rose Tennis of Unity.

The body arrived in Colby Thursday and lay in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home until the time of services Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby, with the Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating. Internment was in the Colby cemetery.

She was a member of the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters in Colby and of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

Mrs. Pohl, the former Irene Tennis, daughter of the late Joseph Tennis and Mrs. Rose Tennis, was born on the home farm 4 miles west of Unity, July 24, 1901, and was married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby June 30, 1926 to Ervin Pohl. Since her marriage, she has resided in Milwaukee.

Surviving beside her husband and mother, are three sons, Arnold, Robert and Thomas, at home, and by three brothers, Sylvester, Melvin and Bernard, all of Unity. A daughter died in infancy and her father died five years ago.

Pallbearers for the funeral were Ed. Feit, O. W. Schultz, Frank Will, Tony Will, Bernard Neuman and Carl Domer. The Childrens Choir sang at the services.

Out of town persons attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Nihkinen, Mr. and Mrs. Rakph Nihkinen, and Mrs. Cecil Simmons, all of Lake Forest, Ill.; William Will and Mr. and Mrs. John Pribnow Jr., Loyal; Harry Orth, Adams; Mrs. Frank Lane, Chicago, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs.Richard Pohl, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krause, Mrs. Edwin Riemer, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Kraut, Donald Kraut, and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kind, all of Curtiss.
