Mason, David (19 Jan. 1844 – 14 Sept. 1882)

Mason – At the town of Hewett, Clark County, Wis., Thursday, Sept. 14th, 1882, at 5 o’clock a.m., David Mason, aged thirty-eighty years, seven months and twenty-six days.

Deceased was born in Maine, Jan. 19, 1884. He has resided in Clark County for many years and has been engaged in lumbering about all that time. He was married July 4th, 1873, to Miss Lydia Visnow, who survives him, as well as two children, one being only a few months old. His father is still living at East Benton, Maine. A brother, Amos A. Mason, arrived in town the day of the funeral but too late to attend these last sad rites.

The funeral was held Friday, at 2 p.m., from the Presbyterian Church, Rev. W. T. Hendren officiating. The Masonic fraternity, of whom deceased was a member attended in a body. The church will fill to overflowing and many could not find seats.

Mr. Mason has been engaged as F. D. Lindsay’s logging operations on Wedges Creek, this summer. He was home on Sunday the 10th, returning on Monday and seemed to be in his usual health. He was taken sick on Tuesday and suffered much pain until Wednesday when he became easier and the physician through him better. His wife was sent for and arrived Wednesday night about 12 o’clock, only five hours before his death. It was found after his death that death could not have been prevented. Mr. Mason was a great favorite in this vicinity. He was a kind-hearted, true man. He had struggled along until he had secured a pleasant home and something besides. He had a noble wife and two lovely children. In the prime of life just where his efforts begun to bring him happiness, he is cut down. It is one of the saddest cases we have chronicled. Mrs. Mason deserved and will receive the sympathy of the whole community.
