Dorchester – 24 Oct. 1882

Editors Times: A sad accident occurred between this place and Stetsonville yesterday morning. A brakeman on the freight due here at 7 a.m. was instantly killed. The unfortunate man’s name was Joseph Williams. He slipped from the top of a car – fell between the cars to the track, and then through a sort of bridge over which the train was passing. The accident was undoubtedly due to the heave frost. Mr. Williams was working in place of the brakeman who was killed above Medford, a few weeks ago.

Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Lansworth returned the first of the week from Madison, where they are called by the death of Mrs. Lansworth’s sister, Miss A. Myrland. Miss Myrland was a former resident of Dorchester and a lady of much excellence. Her many friends deplore her early death.

Randolph Norton, of Colorado, who has been visiting in town of few weeks, started on Tuesday for home. His brother, C. W. Norton, accompanied him a few stations, but could not be induced to emigrate to that land of fair promises.

Hosea Hugaboom is absent on a pleasure excursion up the line. He takes in Philips and Ashland.

Dr. Phelan has been in Fond du Lac for a few days. His patients have all recovered in his absence.

Mrs. E. L. Swarthout, returned yesterday from Eau Claire, where she has been spending a few days with friends and relatives.

Mrs. Geo. Bramble had opened a millinery and dress making establishment over Jensen’s store, on Railroad Avenue.

J. E. Bussell is building a house on his lot on Main Street.

A building is going up next to our drug store on Railroad Avenue, which is to be occupied by a harness maker.

The grounds around the school house are being graded and fenced.

Oliver Terrio entertained his many friends last evening, in honor, of his birthday. Master Oliver goes to Fond du Lac tomorrow (Saturday), to stay the winter.

A party is to be held at the Lake house tonight. Elmer Tennet and his sister, Miss Carrie, are entertaining a young lady cousin from Grand Rapids in whose honor this party is given.

Two mammoth black bears have been killed in the suburbs of our city during the last week. We suppose the woods are full of them.

Mr. A. Pettit brought in an immense deer on Friday, and every lady has gone hunting.

Mr. Boulais has gone to Dakota for the winter. He contemplates removing his family thither, if he enjoys the blizzards.
