Heath, Caroline (1 Feb. 1818 – 25 Oct. 1882)

Heath – In Heathville, Clark County, Wis., Oct. 25th, 1882, Mrs. Caroline Heath, wife of Horace Heath, aged 31 [?] years.

Mrs. Heath was born in Parishville, St. Lawrence County, New York, Feb. 1st, 1818. Her maiden name was Eastman. She was married to Horace Heath, of Stockholm, Jan. 1st, 1863. Mrs. Heath moved, with her husband, to Clark County, Wis. in 1869. Her only sister, Mrs. J. M. Kennel, of Stockholm, visited her last summer during her illness, and is now the only living member of her father’s family. Her sickness was protracted and server. But in all this she was cared for and comforted by kind and patient friends and neighbors; and ore than all she was cheered and strengthened by the presence of Him who has said, “I will never leave thee, nor for sake thee.”

During the last three moths she was called upon to part with four daughters, by death, Mrs. Osgood, July 20th, aged 18; Anna, Sept. 19th, aged 10; Shirley, Sept. 11th, aged 8; Rena, Sept. 12th, aged 13. Thus deep was her sorrow in the midst of bodily affliction. And thus deep is the sorrow of her husband as he stands by the side of fire newly made graves with none left, except Josie, aged five years and Carrie, aged nine months. This deep affliction touches the hearts of many, all over the country, as was manifest on the day of the funeral.

The funeral was attended from the church of the Adventists, at the Windfall on Friday last. The sermon was by Rev. W. T. Hendren, of the Presbyterian Church of Neillsville. The music is furnished by the friends in the vicinity of Maple Works.

Thus has passed away one who could not well be spared from home or church. But God’s ways are not our ways and we submit to his providence knowing that all thing work together for good.

W. T. H.
