GEORGE IVES FUNERAL FRIDAY

FORMER MARSHFIELD MAYOR DIES IN HOSPITAL WEDNESDAY EVENING AFTER SHORT ILLNESS

George S. Ives, 47 former mayor of Marshfield, died in St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday evening at 11 o'clock after the illness of two days. Mr. Ives had become seriously ill Monday morning and was taken to the hospital where he submitted to an operation Tuesday afternoon. He previously had entered the hospital December 7th and underwent an operation at that time from which he apparently recovered, and he was able to return to his home January 12. His death resulted form a gangrenous liver infection.

Mr. Ives was born in Rubicon, Wis., March 17, 1891, and came to Clark County with his parents where he received education in the Heathville School, 12 miles west of Marshfield.

Even in his youth he was interested in mechanical work, and operated the first garage in Clark County, at Chili. At the age of 16 he came to Marshfield and was employed by the Hayden Boiler Works here, and three years later on Dec. 17 1910, he joined the United States army and was sent of San Antonio, Texas where he served for three years and was honorably discharged.

He was employed for a number of years in San Antonio, El Paso and Galveston, Texas, and in Pittsburg, Kansas and later returned to Wisconsin. When the United States entered the World war he again enlisted and served as an instructor in Liberty motor ignition in the air service training mechanics school at St Paul. Following the war he was employed by the St Paul Electric utility as service man

On December 27, 1920, he was married to Miss Katherine Sherrick of Lankin, N.D. and in 1924 they came to Marshfield where since resided. Mr. Ives accepted a position as chief engineer and master mechanic at the Roddis Lumber and Veneer company plant in 1924, and later operated a jewelry shop in this city. He also served Wood County as a motorcycle officer for a time and for a number of years operated a radio and electrical repair shop. In 1934 he was elected mayor of Marshfield and continued in office for two terms, having been re-elected in 1936.

Mr. Ives was president of the Wood County Beekeepers Association for many years, and was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. He also had been affiliated with ex-servicemen's organizations during the time of his residence in this city.

Surviving relatives are his widow and their two sons, Walter, a sophomore in the Marshfield high school, and Lovell, a student in the Washington school; two children by a former marriage, George W Ives, Jr., Marshfield and Mrs. Lenora Johnson, Winter Park, Fla.; his father, George W Ives, Sr., Marshfield; and six brothers and sisters: Mrs. William (Grace) Maluge, Marshfield; Mrs. Carrie Carpenter, Marshfield; Lovell Ives, Jefferson; Clifford Ives, Wilmette, Ill.; Mr. Hellger (Irene) Estes, Wazahachie, Texas; and Mrs. Homer (Sadie) Spry, Marshfield: and one granddaughter. One brother, Fred, was killed in a train accident 15 years ago.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the Seehafer-Hansen funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Trinity English Lutheran Church, with the pastor, the Rev. C.A. Kipps, officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery
