Umhoefer, Mary Catherine (Marriage - 26 Aug. 1950)

Now honeymooning in northern Wisconsin are Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Louis Tennis, who were married at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. N. B. Beschta performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride, the former Mary Catherine Umhoefer, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. X. Umhoefer, Colby, while the groom’s mother is Mrs. Rosa Tennis, Unity.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white embossed organza ballerina-length gown and nylon mitts. Her shoulder-length veil fell from a Juliet cap of Chantilly lace, and she carried a colonial bouquet of white gladioli and red roses tied with white satin bows.

Two sisters-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Paul Umhoefer, Colby, as matron of honor and Mrs. James Umhoefer, Janesville, as bridesmaid, were her attendants. Both gowns were ballerina-length, the matron of honor wearing rose colored all-over lace. The bridesmaid’s gown was a toast colored crepe with a lace bodice. Both carried bouquets of rose, yellow and white mums and daisies. Completing their ensembles were lace caps.

The bride’s brother, Paul Umhoefer, was best man. Another brother of the bride, James Umhoefer, Janesville, was the groomsman, and Wm. Schramm, Glencoe, Ill., cousin of the groom, and Robert Pohl, Milwaukee, nephew of the groom, ushered for the ceremony.

The bride’s mother witnessed her daughter’s wedding in a rose crepe dress with navy blue accessories, and the mother of the groom wore a black romaine crepe gown with black accessories. Corsages of white carnations and red roses were pinned to their dresses.

A breakfast was served at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s gymnasium and later they greeted guests at a reception at the home of the bride’s parents from 2 to 5 p.m.

The bride is a graduate of the Colby high school and St. Theresa’s College, Winona, Minn., and taught for several years in Wausau Senior High School.

The couple will reside on the groom’s farm west of Unity.
