Barnhart, Samuel H. (28 DEC 1894 – 2 AUG 1936)

Samuel H. Barnhart, 41, died at the Veterans Hospital at Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon, August 2nd, 1936, having been a patient there and failing gradually for the past nine weeks. He was bright and cheery to the last, buoyed with that moral courage with which only one who has suffered much can show.

Deceased was born in Wautoma, Wis., on Dec. 28, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Barnhart. He was united in marriage to Marion LaMond at Pine River, Wis., on Sept. 18, 1917. They came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) from Neillsville in 1922. and Mr. Barnhart was with the Ford Auto Sales Co. here for several years. He was a veteran of the World War and was past commander of the Cecil Tormey Post No. 118, American Legion, also serving as adjutant and service officer. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Modern Woodmen Lodges.

He leaves to mourn his early passing, a wife and one daughter, Marion, and one brother, T.E. Barnhart of Lynden, Wash.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wendell Bennetts of Knapp, Wis., at the Bogumill Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon, interment taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery. Military rites were conferred by a large delegation of the local American Legion Post, with firing squad and taps at the grave, the services being read by Commander Thomas Polnaszek. Pallbearers were: Gust Wiesner, Felix Kinast, Robert Daniels, W. Vanderhyden, Stanley Ustruck and Ed Borck; color bearers: S.J. Glamkowski and Hjalmer Brandsness.
